The Somme is an evolution on an old staple gametype from the original Reach days. A trench battlefield mode is always popular in Halo, so why not use the expanded toolset in MCC Reach to make a proper battlefield on Forge World?
There's a range of classes to choose from with tweaks to the basic traits to rebalance in favour of the weaker auto weapons. The spiker is surprisingly effective and makes it feel really intense. While the map is a little older (from before object scaling existed), it still does a good job of creating a trench battlefield using mostly natural objects. I've been thinking of doing a part 2 or revamp using scaling, however it's probably just worth waiting for Infinite to make that.
The map plays with a Territories gametype, exactly like the original made by Darth Human. There's rows of trenches which each contain a long territory hill that if held will accumulate points.
My favourite thing on the map will always be the rocket pod artillery made by
Nuckin. They're a bit goofy in that they hardly ever kill anyone, but the add so much to the theme of the map.
