Halo News MCC Update – August 2022 Review

full

MCC just keeps getting better...

Hello! Im Alex and let's go through the new MCC August update, walk you through the highlights and how to use the new features. This update delivers substantial improvements to Forge, QOL changes to the UI as well as a breadth of new cosmetics that will be released through the exchange over the coming weeks/months. Unfortunately, Halo: Reach Mod tools have not been released with this update - so expect a new article when they drop.

So what's new with forge?

NEW REACH FORGE FEATURES

Object Duplication
Duplicate an object and retain all assigned properties with a single press of a button

While in forge, simply press down on the dpad when holding an object. This should be a great tool for forgers who use scale - as the properties of the object carry over. This rapidly speeds up building structures with scale. Racers will also enjoy being able to create tracks so much easier without the use of blender.

Reset Orientation
This feature was previously available in the Forge menu but is now available as a hotkey

Pretty self explanatory: great general quality of life improvement for forgers, should be right on the dpad for controller players.

Delete By Palette and Delete Everything
Delete all objects from a single palette, or delete everything, using this shortcut in the Forge menu.

Finally, forgers on other dev maps will be able to quickly delete all the spawn and objective objects on the map. This option can be accessed in the menu and is a great tool to strip back any map to its structural components.

Location Name Marker
New “Hold to Bake Lighting” Feature
Previously, Forge in both H2A & H4 required lighting to briefly “bake” whenever players swapped from Monitor to Player mode. This new feature allows for players to tap the Switch Player Mode button to quickly switch modes. Holding the Switch Player Mode button will bake the map’s lighting.

You can now quickly swap back and forth between monitor mode and player mode. Great QOL improvement for when your just messing around in forge!

Location Name Markers
These placeable items allow players to use one of 256 preset names to identify areas on their maps. This feature is currently only available on the Forge World and Tempest canvas maps.

I have created a table below for forgers to reference when labelling their maps. This is a great addition that will add another level of immersion and allow for curated callouts in more competitive modes. One quick thing to mention is that if the shape of these objects overlap, then the most recently placed marker will take precedent.

This update is dripping with menu customisation and UI improvements, one thing in particular I'd like to highlight is the menu screen customisation which can be found be going into settings > video > background customisation. This really changes the way the whole platform feels to load up and navigate. I personally set the main menu to the Halo Reach Vignette, really invokes the classic game and this approach can be applied to any of your favourite halo titles. There is plenty more to find out on this topic so make sure to check out the full patch notes linked at the end.

There have been a plethora of new customisation options for H2A, we have new armour sets of ranging styles. I personally enjoy the 2 sets of more militaristic armour. Unfortunately, these will be delivered over time through weekly refreshes of the exchange. So save up those armour points! We also have stances for all the halo games, some of them are a little goofy and only time will tell how these are unlocked. There is plenty more to find out on this topic so make sure to check out the full patch notes linked below.
